How to Install fog lamp in your Royal Enfield

Now a days fog lamps are gaining importance in two wheeler. Many types of LED fog lamps are available in the market with reasonable price and it's very useful to ride in fogy and dust covered areas.

The main difference between normal head lights and fog lights are spreading of its beam. Fog lights are spreads wider and does not travel longer as head lamps. Head lamp beam travels longer then fog lamps. So in foggy conditions fog lamps are very useful with wide spread of beam in short distance in lower speed.

Basic things to know before install the fog lamp
Before Install the fog lamp in your RE, first know the basic things. Your motorcycle battery is important part of the lighting, don't fix the extra loads to your poor battery it will start to give trouble. So check your battery condition and capacity. All older model 350 & 500 are equipped with 12Volt 14Ah Negative earth system. (Only self start models). Newer 350cc Electric start and Himalayan models uses 12Volt 8Ah Negative earth system, all 500cc uses 12Volt 14Ah Negative earth system. GT535 use 12Volt 8Ah.

 Choosing your lamps
There are many types of fog LED Fog lamps available in the market as well as online. chose a good quality lamps and keep in mind that power does not more then 10 to 15Wastts, other wise it will drain the battery. Buy a good quality power cut off switch, fuse & holder, relay and wiring materials.

LED fog lamps

Fuse holder and fuse to protect your wiring circuit (10Ah is enough)
Switch to control the power light

Relay to control the switching circuit (10Ah is enough)

Let us fix

Wiring Diagram for Fog/Auxiliary lights

First choose proper location to to fix the lamps, do not fix too high on motorcycle it blinds the on coming traffic. Leg guard level is good. fix it with proper fasteners.

To do this work first remove the seat and fuel tank in all model, by doing this you will get plenty of space to work. In standard and classic models battery located at LH side of the vehicle, separate battery box is provided. In Thunderbird and GT its located on left side cover and In Himalayan under the rider's seat.

In above circuit check the battery its Negative terminal was connected to the frame. In Positive terminal there was to wires connected on is main wiring diagram, don't tamper it, just connect a new wire to the positive terminal and fix fuse holder into it (Please take out the fuse).

After the fixing the fuse take the wire under the fuel tank till till fog lamp by using god quality sleeves and proper wiring ties. Connect the Positive wire to the relay Input. In relay there is fore terminal is there, out of it two terminals are used for activate the relay other two are Input and out put of the relay. (Load). So here you have to connect the battery wire to the relay's Load Input and take  another connection from the relays out put terminal and connect it  to the  fog lamp terminal. Connect other terminal of the fog lamp to the frame. Now fog lamp wiring circuit is completed.

Connecting the Power switch

Fix the fog lamp switch in handlebar in convenient location, there are two terminal in the switch connect one terminal to the Relay's power terminal, there are two power terminals in the relay another terminal has  to be connected to the frame (Earth).

Switch on the Ignition of motorcycle find the live wire of front brake or clutch switch and connect the power switch wire to it. Insert the fuse on holder, and check the lighting operation.

Working of Relay

Relay is a simple magnetic switch it consists for terminals, out of it two terminals are connected to the battery via Power switch, another two terminals are load input and out put, which there is no electricity in the primary coil terminals load terminals are in disconnected position. As soon as switch on the power positive current passes through the  relay's coil via and build magnetic fields and pulls the contact placed top of it against the tension of a small spring. As soon as it pulls the contact the input current which was connected to the battery positive via fuse passes through the out put terminal and power goes to the fog lamps.

Joints and connectors

Proper knots

Connectors
Connecting Lugs

Notes : When you install any electrical items to your motorcycle, check the compatibility, use proper tools, connectors, seal the joints with insulator to avoid damages.

happy kagathara when you connect it directly on light or horn ther is higher possibility of getting fused(specially fuse inside head light casing) when you use light and horn simultanusly
