By looking Registration Certificate of the motorcycle one can easily find out the year of registration, model, cubic capacity etc. But if you are buying the bullet from Delhi especially from Karol bagh area you have to be very careful. Almost all the Brokers and so called exporters are erasing and re-stamping the chassis and engine numbers. I have seen many of them, generally they cheat the foreign travelers who visits India and does not know much about the make and models of Royal Enfield.
First of all they are searching for the foreign travelers for these purposes. The easiest way is hosting attractive website, on website they will tell they make high quality customization, using genuine parts etc. Second thing hanging the cut-outs at small hotels and cyber cafes’. These cafĂ© people and hotel managers act as brokers. When these travelers (They generally called as “Bhakra’s”) are visited to the Motor cycle outlets, owner cum sales man welcomes them and start to explain “what they are and who they are” after continuously drilling for an hour they are ready for buying the legendary old as your age or some times your fathers age Royal Enfield motorcycles. When model goes down price starts to increase. 60.. 70..thousand to 1.8 lakh depending on models.
Then they will assure the customer that they have that bike and it has to be restored genuine (duplicate) parts and they will need some advance to restore it, when they got the advance they will source Mayapuri junk yard for these bikes and manage to get some papers. Then they start to build export quality bikes from this. First thing is buffing the Engine and Chassis numbers, painting it, building the bike by using low cost duplicate local spares (even control cable and batteries are also local) and completing the bike and delivering it to the customers.
So, if you thinking to by an old Royal Enfield from Delhi especially from these markets please beware of these things.
